Inspiration For Writers Block

Most writers will have trouble with writer’s block at some point in their lives. The possible reasons for writer’s block are myriad: fear, anxiety, a life change, the end of a project, the beginning of a project . . . almost anything, it seems, can cause that debilitating feeling of fear and frustration. Fortunately there are as many ways to deal with writer’s block but trying something new is the first step toward writing again.

Writers block can happen to anyone, anywhere and anytime. Sometimes we allow life to grow weeds in our dream garden and move on with life. But I wonder about ‘that’ over grown garden… When I return to this place, my characters, plots, adventures and dreams become so pollute I cannot ignore them. I immediately, grab my doodle book (with all my ideas and pictures) and begin writing down whatever scene or moment I dreamt about.

Remember:
“There was those before us who had barriers. Our barriers are temporary and dwindling blocks to our successes.”
  – Erial Wheeler

This is where I find my greatest successes in those moments where the struggle is so painful that I know longer can ignore the voices and images in my mind. I become determined and desperate to doodle. Stephanie Meyer once said in a interview “I woke up (on that June 2nd) from a very vivid dream. In my dream, two people were having an intense conversation in a meadow in the woods. One of these people was just your average girl. The other person was fantastically beautiful, sparkly, and a vampire. They were discussing the difficulties inherent in the facts that A) they were falling in love with each other while B) the vampire was particularly attracted to the scent of her blood, and was having a difficult time restraining himself from killing her immediately. For what is essentially a transcript of my dream, please see Chapter 13 (“Confessions”) of the book.” - sourced The Story Behind Twilight

Throughout time and history there are many famous writer’s who experienced writer’s block and overcame their barriers to lead a very successful life. You can say writer’s block can be a gift but also a curse, that is if your procrastinate for many years with unfinished stories – stashed somewhere :)

Here are a few popular examples of writer’s block:

  • The writer’s block is mentioned on various occasions in the 2006 film, Stranger Than Fiction. The character of Karen Eiffel admits to suffering from writer’s block when she is having difficulty envisioning how to kill her book’s hero, Harold Crick.
  • n the 2004 psychological thriller Secret Window, which is based on the novella “Secret Window, Secret Garden” by Stephen King, the main character is a writer by the name of Mort Rainey played by Johnny Depp, who portrays a man who is going through a divorce and as a result is suffering from writer’s block.
  • English rapper Just Jack‘s song “Writer’s Block” is about how he suffered from writer’s block while writing the song as he had too much else on his mind.
  • Children’s author J. K. Rowling admitted she had experienced writer’s block while working on Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

Believe In Yourself

Sometimes people come into your life and you know right away that they were meant to be there.  To serve some sort of purpose, teach you a lesson or help figure out who you are or who you want to become.

You never know who these people may be but when you lock eyes with them, you know that very moment that they will affect your life in some profound way. And sometimes things happen to you at the time that may seem horrible, painful and unfair, but in reflection you realize that without overcoming those obstacles you would have never realized your potential, strength, will
power or heart.

Everything happens for a reason. Nothing happens by chance or by means of good luck. Illness, injury, love, lost moments of true greatness and sheer stupidity all occur to test the limits of your soul. Without these small tests, life would be like a smoothly paved, straight, flat road to nowhere.  Safe and comfortable but dull and utterly pointless.

The people you meet affect your life. The successes and downfalls that you experience can create who you are, and the bad experiences can be learned from. In fact, they are probably the most poignant and important ones.

If someone hurts you, betrays you or breaks your heart, forgive them because they have helped you learn about trust and the importance of being cautious to whom you open your heart.

If someone loves you, love them back unconditionally, not only because they love you, but because they are teaching you to love and to open your heart and eyes to little things. Make every day count.

Appreciate every moment and take from it everything that you possibly can, for you may never be able to experience it again.

Talk to people you have never talked to before, and actually listen. Let yourself fall in love, break free and set your sights high.

Hold your head up because you have every right to. Tell yourself you are a
great individual and believe in yourself, for if you don’t believe in yourself, no one else will believe in you. Create your own life and then go out and live it.

“If you take your eyes off your goals, all you see are obstacles.”
